“Do you love me because I am beautiful, or am I beautiful because you love me” – Oscar Hammerstein II

Just a quick post today to share with you that this is my first project as a DT member of  ‘A Creative Need’ Challenge blog Design Team. The name of this Challenge blog is really appealing to me, as this is exactly what I feel ever so often: ‘a need to create’. This Challenge blog is the first Friday of every month, so I can manage the pressure of the deadlines, and my creative need is content having to produce three projects per month for these Design Teams that hopefully will touch people’s souls and will inspire and motivate them to be creative…

Here is the digital image I had to use, designed by Deena Perreault, the creator of  ‘A Creative Need’.

and this was my first intuitive approach the above image. I covered with gesso a little piece (7.5″ x 7.25″ inches approx.) of solid wood and gave it a wash of acrylic paints in orange, blue, yellow, red, purple and green. I did a little sketch of where I was going to place the digital image and draw a tree with little hearts instead of apples..hahaha..

I was getting very motivating as I could see the end results before finished, so I kept working with the flow.. I painting the digital image with watercolour inkesent pencils and glued it on my little canvas..

and after nearly 5 hours later, the image you already saw at the top, is the final result of working further with the colours, cutting pattern paper (from my own painted background papers) out in the shape of the hearts.. The main heart in the middle was cut from a piece of cartoon for more dimension and covered with glossy accents. Finally I stamped some flowers at the base of the painting, and made them a bit bluer so they wouldn’t stand out too much..
